Heading out for a weekend beach getaway with the girls? Or maybe your long awaited vacation to paradise is finally here? Either way, you’re probably planning everything from which bikinis to pack to what hairstyles to sport. The latter of which we’ve got you covered.
We’ve outlined some of our favorite easy breezy beach hairdos below, along with simple tutorials to follow. All of these styles require minimal time and product so you don’t have to pack an entire suitcase of hair styling tools, nor do you have to keep everyone waiting while you tame your mane. What hairstyles do you like to rock in the sun?
Beach Waves
No article on beach hair would be complete without homage to beach waves. This effortless, chic style is the perfect ‘do when you’re relaxing in a bikini. It’s easy to accomplish, easy to maintain, and it’s always a classic fallback when you’re running late to a clambake or feeling lazy from all that sun.
To accomplish the “just-finished-surfing” look, start with damp hair. Comb it out with your fingers, making sure to get rid of any nasty tangles. Remember, this doesn’t have to be perfect, so your fingers will give off the perfect “messy” look. Next, run a little bit of product through your hair, again, using your fingers. A light styling mousse will do the trick, just enough to hold the style. After you’ve applied the product, scrunch hair in your palms or between your hands to create loose and kinky curls. Don’t worry if some pieces are left straight – after all, you’re at the beach! Once you’re satisfied with the loose curls, comb your fingers through your hair once more to give the finishing touch. Voila! You’re ready for the beach in no time!
Fishtail Braid
French braids are always a fan favorite, but if you’re looking for something a little more modern, go for a fishtail braid. It’s a fun new look that is great swept to the side. And best of all, the messier, the better!
Start with damp or dry hair. Use a little bit of styling product so your hairdo will get a little extra oomph – but be careful not to overdo it, as this can cause the braid to be too thick. Next, separate your hair into two sections. Take a piece from either side and join it with the opposite section. Repeat on the other side. Keep the pieces of hair small so your braid doesn’t get too chunky. Tie off the braid with your favorite hair tie. And for the final touch, pull a few pieces out of the braid, tug on the sides a little bit, and give it that tousled temptress look.
Classic Pony, Modern Twist
Ah, the ponytail. It’s as effortless a style as they come! But if you’re looking for a little more than the same simple ponytail you sport at the gym, here are a few ideas to make it a little more beach-friendly.
Start with dry hair and gently tease the top half. This will give your hair a little extra volume, even when it’s pulled back. You can also tease the bottom half and/or create a few loose curls with your favorite clipless curling iron. If you do curl a few strands, make sure they are loose, messy, and unique. Beach hair is hardly ever perfect, so don’t even bother! Next, sweep your hair back into a high ponytail or a side ponytail with a small hair tie. Take a small section of your hair and wrap it around the hair tie and pin in the ends with a bobby pin. You can also braid the section of hair for a little added fun.
Hat Trick
Most women only turn to hats when they’re hiding from a bad hair day. But at the beach, hats take on a whole new roll! Not only can they make the perfect accessory, but they can also shield your face from harsh sunrays. Sounds like a win-win to us!
When picking a hat for the beach, you can either go big and floppy or small and sexy. Floppy beach hats come in all shapes and colors, with all sorts of embellishments so they can match your swimsuit, your flip-flops, and even your nail polish. If you’d like something a little less pronounced, pick up a fedora-style beach hat made out of weaved straw.
As for the hair that goes under the hat, pick any one of your favorite hairstyles! Hats go great with beach waves, low ponytails, a messy chignon pulled to the side, and even the ever glamorous fishtail braid.
The beach is all about catching up on trashy magazines, gossiping with friends, and sipping on a mojito. There’s no time for fussing with overly complicated hairstyles. Instead, try our easy beach hairdos so you can get back to fun in the sun in no time at all.
